A Standard Five teacher is T&T’s representative for the Miss Globe 2015 pageant.
Dana De-Frence sat down for an interview with the T&T Guardian last week and spoke of her dreams of being crowned Miss Globe.
The svelte 22-year-old, who stands at an intimidating 6’2, is currently pursuing a law degree.
But Dana says getting to the pageant itself involves a lot more than modelling pretty clothes.
She has been training for the past year with CariVog, a Charm school, on several aspects of pageant life. This year’s pageant will take place in Canada, for the first time in over three decades of being hosted in Albania with representatives from 48 countries.
Dana will be accompanied by her mother and also her Charm school teacher and director of CariVog, Valerie Noreiga, to Canada where the pageant will take place.
Q: Who is Dana De-Frence?
A: I am a 22-year-old On the Job Trainee (OJT) teacher from Penal Rock Road, Penal. I have a degree in psychology and a diploma in law, which I would like to further.
Q: What inspired you to enter the beauty pageant world?
A: It has always been a dream of mine to compete in a beauty pageant, not just for the beauty aspect, but for beauty with a purpose. You have to be academically inclined, you have to represent your country, it’s not just all about the glitz and glamour.
Q: Are you nervous about facing off with the 47 contestants?
A: No...not really nervous, because I am still going to enjoy myself. Of course the aim is the crown but I expect this will be quite an experience.
Q: How did you prepare for the pageant?
A: It was not easy, I spent a year in training at CariVog and they taught me how to model, they taught me charm and speech. They taught me how to do my own makeup and hair, about wardrobe planning. It was pretty intense, I went through a lot to be here.
Q: What are the categories that make up the pageant?
A: It’s just like Miss World or Miss Universe, there is a swimsuit segment, evening gown segment, a talent segment, national costume segment and an intelligence interview.
Q: What are your plans for after the pageant?
A: I really love law, but I want to share my knowledge as well. I want to practice law but in the long run I plan to teach again. Whatever I do, I want to be at the top of my game in each field.
