Gamescon 2015 was three-floors swarming with teens, young adults and families who were there for a day of non-stop video gaming, card-based gaming, PC-based games and an open cosplay competition.
The video and card gaming convention was held on August 29, created by E-sports Caribbean’s Kevin Lee-A-Ping and his organising team. Registration remained open for several weeks to an influx of teams and individuals all vying for prizes and most importantly, bragging rights.
Gamescon was held at the Teaching and Learning Complex at UWI, St Augustine, and was supposed to begin at 8 am and end at 9 pm. With a late start and one or two tournaments which went over time, the day of games did not conclude until after 11 pm.
The games played throughout the day were League of Legends, Dota, Hearthstone, Fifa 15, Mortal Kombat X, Ultra Street Fighter IV, Naruto Shippuuden Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution, Super Smash Brothers, along with other featured Free-to-Play games and a cosplay competition.
“This event is about seeing the passion from gaming grow and to develop e-sports within T&T and also throughout the Caribbean,” said Lee-A-Ping. “For future tournaments we also would like to invite other Caribbean islands to take part in Games-Con,” he said. “We are aiming to be the biggest video gaming event in the Caribbean.”
