National Calypso Monarch Roderick “Chucky” Gordon is taking calypso and soca music to Europe. Chucky will participate in both Aalborg (May 22) and Copenhagen (May 23) Carnival celebrations in Denmark, before making scheduled appearances at night clubs in Copenhagen, Oslo, Amsterdam and Paris.

The trip is all part of his 2015 ‘Take Me Home’ world tour.

While in Denmark the double monarch winner will also shoot the music video for his latest release From the Heart in Aalborg. The music video will be directed by Trinidadian film-maker Nadissa Haynes, who lives in the city.

“I’m really looking forward to the next few weeks. It’s all about breaking new ground and taking our music to new frontiers. I look forward to meeting with the people and exchanging ideas,” Chucky said of the tour.

Chucky retained his title on Dimanche Gras night during the 2015 Carnival celebration is Trinidad, in February of this year. He is only the sixth ever singer to win back to back titles in a hundred years of the competition.

His achievement saw him join living legend Mighty Sparrow, and the late Spoiler and Lord Kitchener among others.

The DNA of dimunitive Chucky is nurtured by talented family. The son of late Malick Folk Performers musical director Roland Gordon, he is the nephew of late past National Calypso Monarch and Road March champion Seadly “Penguin” Joseph.

Known for his colourful and dynamic stage show, Chucky said he plans to incorporate a couple calypso standards into his repertoire for the Caribbean music fans in Europe.

“Some Sparrow, some Arrow and a little rum and coca-cola too… People know more calypso than they think and I’m sure they’re going to find something to sing along,” he said.
