Past students, from Trinity College class of 1981, recently handed over a newly refurbished Geography room to the school’s Principal, Alison Baisden.

At the handover, the past students were represented by Derek Parker and Burton Williams. Parker acknowledged “that their early formation as men was a critical feature of their later successes in many fields of life and professional endeavour.

“As such, the past students of year ’81, have collectively chosen to demonstrate in small ways, and over time, their commitment to the development of the institution that has helped to shape them,” Parker said.

The Adopt a Classroom project was one such contribution. After making a site visit with Principal Baisden in August 2014, the sixth form Geography room was chosen as the first classroom to be refurbished.

Parker and Williams handed over the classroom to a grateful Principal Baisden along with the College’s current Geography teachers, Aeleishe De Souza and Lindiwe Ome and their sixth form students.

Donations for the project came from past students in the form of furniture from Richard Farah at MDC-UM and businessman Adam Aboud as well as a newly built storage cabinet from Roger Macedo and Dr Terrence Ward.

The past students said they felt pride and a sense of real accomplishment in knowing that Trinity College is a slightly better place thanks to their efforts. They also hope the Adopt a Classroom resonates with other year groups and the wider Alumni Association.
