India has promised to provide a museum planner, exhibition specialist to support this country's efforts in preserving and displaying diverse historical cultural heritage, according to Acting Minster of Foreign Affairs Dr Suruj Rambachan.
He made this announcement at India's 66th Republic Day celebrations at India House, Federation Park, on Monday night.
"We look forward, in the coming year, to host a museum planner and exhibition specialist to support our efforts in preserving and displaying the diverse historical and cultural heritage of our national identity, and for the further consolidation of our national identity and cultural security," Dr Rambachan said.
He noted that T&T feels a sense of fraternity with India as a result of our diasporic links which bring together our people, culture and traditions.
"Trinidad and Tobago remains appreciative of the close collaboration through cultural exchanges, technical cooperation and trade which have provided valuable support to Trinidad and Tobago in the areas of agriculture, diplomatic training, energy, information, communications technology, science and technology, traditional medicine among others," he noted.
Dr Rambachan also called on India to assist this country in developing our mango estates, since India has become a major supplier of mangoes to the European Union.
"Our roots are deep, our friendship strong, may God continue to bless both our lands and our peoples," he said.
"Trinidad and Tobago continues to call for the reform of the international financial architecture to include the development ambitions of the developing world. We in Trinidad and Tobago look forward to the operationalisation of the New Development Bank under the leadership of India, from where its first president will come."
Indian High Commissioner to T&T, Shri Gauri Shankar Gupta, said that India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has begun a new development thrust in several areas including training, economic and educational opportunities.
Several Cabinet ministers and diplomats attended the function.
Earlier in the day, scores of Indians and nationals of Trinidad attended the unfurling of India's tricolour amidst the singing of the anthem by students of the Mahatma Gandhi Centre for Cultural Co-operation.
